HIPAA - Patient Privacy and Security

UCLA Health System (UCLA) has always had privacy and patient confidentiality standards in place to ensure appropriate access or disclosure of protected health information. The federal law called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) provides additional safeguards for ensuring that your health information is adequately protected.

HIPAA requires that the University train all workforce members about the University HIPAA Policies and those specific HIPAA required procedures that may affect the work you do for the University.  Workforce members include all UCLA Health System salaried employees and non-salaried personnel, voluntary physicians with staff privileges, all physicians and associate staff members with medical staff privileges, volunteers, registry personnel and temporary personnel and other health professions students and trainees.
